Festival Strategy

So you've finished your film and are ready to present it to the world - now what?  I'm ready to get down in the weeds with you and strategize what festivals to submit it to and in what order.  Where will you get the best visibility and coverage?  What is the best fit for your particular film? What are festivals looking for? How can you sway them?

  • Look at your film as film programmers do
  • Craft your synopsis to excite viewers before they press play
  • Plan where to send it, when and what order
  • Position your film to grab their attention (do you need cover letters? fancy packaging? bribes?)

Pricing:

One-Time Consultation and Submission Plan
$150.00
Submission Coaching
$300.00

What does this include?

One-Time Consultation and Submission Plan: I'll watch your film to the end, we'll get on the phone and talk about your goals for the film. I will give you my very honest appraisal of where I think the film will find the most success on the film festival circuit, based on those goals. I will then craft an individualized SUBMISSION PLAN complete with deadlines, based on our conversation.

Submission Coaching: In addition to everything above in the Consultation and Submission Plan, I will also be available to you through the run of your film on the circuit. I'll help you craft a synopsis and a logline. Email me any follow-up questions about festivals, send me your cover letter to proof, and let me talk you down from rejection letters. Caught between two festival invites on the same week? Let me help you decide.

Why Bears?

Because I do this every day of my life. I am filmmaker and film programmer actively involved in both sides of a submission with several different festivals. I go to Sundance every year, but I also go to the tiny festivals. There are very few consultants out there that are actual active, award-winning filmmakers. There are very few consultants out there that work at more than one festival.  I can claim both. I'm also not really doing this to make a lot of money. I just want to help you find the best audience for your film.

I won Bears’s mentorship as a prize at DePaul University’s Premiere film festival. It has been the best prize I have ever won. Bears’s knowledge and connections in the film festival world is so complete one would think he has been attending every film festival there is since film festivals began. Learning the technique of how and when to apply to festivals is an art I did not even know existed until I met Bears. My success in the film festival circuit has improved drastically in the years since I’ve had Bears’s mentorship. I highly recommend him for any filmmaker hoping to get attention in the film festival world.
